This paper presents a methodology to the create exercises from pentatonic patterns derived from the melodic minor scale. Using them, as a base, as elements of contrast or surprise, in the context of improvisation is the central objective of its design. Several aspects inherent to the universal musical inheritance were compiled the elements of the melodic minor scale, the pentaphony and the predesigned patterns as improvisation tools. Finally, this information was used for the creation of three written solos. The research was divided into three stages in the first one, by means of the documentary method, concepts that contribute to obtaining contrasting melodic results were addressed. In the second stage, the analytical method was used to obtain pentatonic patterns. The compositional and experimental method was used in the third stage to design exercises, which were employed in the fourth stage in order to create the demonstrative solos through the compositional method. All this information will be presented as a part of a jazz recital corresponding to the line of performance research.
